Summer Foundation Guide

Summer is that time of the year where you want to cover your skin imperfections but you also don’t want to sweat it all off, am I right?

I grew up and currently live in Southern California where the weather is pretty tame all year round. However, I went to college in Ohio and, let me tell you, summer heat is no fun. It’s hot, muggy, and you sweat just looking outside.

Well I’m here to give you a range of foundation options! Whether you’re going to a concert on a hot summer night or a day at the beach, hopefully this guide will help you still feel like confident while covering up any insecurities!

This list ranges from high end to drugstore and light coverage to full coverage. This list is also in no particular order! Also keep in mind I only use cruelty free makeup (learn more about CF makeup HERE)!

Different levels of coverage
Light Coverage: provides a light layer of foundation where you can still see acne, freckles, or redness peaking through.
Medium Coverage: provides enough coverage to cancel out redness and some appearance of freckles or acne.
High Coverage: provides a clean slate, basically nothing is peaking through your foundation and your skin looks perfect.

Physicians Formula Healthy Foundation

This foundation is provides light-to-medium coverage and feels a more skin like. This is one of my go-to foundations if I’m going to Disneyland. It’s lightweight, has SPF, and is good for the girl who wants to cover a little bit but not as much at the IT Cosmetics CC cream.
Available at Ulta ($12.99) Target, Walmart, and all drugstores, prices vary per store.

Flower Beauty Light Illusion Foundation

Flower Beauty is Drew Barrymore’s brand and the more I try, the more I love! This Foundation provides medium coverage, is lightweight, and looks very natural. This is also the most glowy, you will look very radiant in this one!
Available at Ulta and Walmart for $13.99.

IT Cosmetics CC+ Cream

A CC cream is usually lighter coverage, kind of like a to it’s moisturizer. This CC cream is not like normal CC Creams. This is a high medium coverage that can be built up. This is great for summer because it’s lightweight, has SPF, and has coverage for the girl who wants it.
Available at Ulta and Sephora for $38.

Essence Fresh & Fit Awake Makeup Foundation

This Foundation is only available at Ulta and is the least expensive of all of the options here ($6.99). This is similar to the Physicians Formula Foundation, it’s lightweight, looks natural, and gives a little coverage. The only issue with this Foundation is the shade range, there are only four! Not good, but still an option for those who want to try it.

Coola B.B. Cream

I talked about this is a previous post but I’ve been wearing this under foundation for more SPF and as a primer. But this is also a great option for the days at the beach or pool where you don’t want to wear makeup but you want something on your face. Available at Ulta and Sephora for $52..

Catrice Waterproof Drops

This bonus item is a new one I’ve been trying out and I think it’s great for summer. You mix in a drop or two to your foundation and it’s supposed to be waterproof! Even if you don’t want to go in water, add these to any foundation and it will make your foundation last allllll day! Available only at Ulta for $7.99.
